Heartbreakingly honest. I wonder how many of these letter were written? How many were half written or thought about, but never had the opportunity to find their destination. It’s glimpses like this that make history come alive.

so brave, so heartbreaking. Knowing that you're going to be rounded up and shot -- terrible. Is it known whether Mordechai went on to live a fulfilled life.

I'll go on record saying I appreciate the content warning -- and am taking the advice. I'm not in a bad place right now; in fact, life has been more positive and "looking up" this past week plus than I remember it being for years. I'd rather enjoy this while it lasts. And, the letter will always be here. The internet casts everything in stone.

So, thank you.

WOW, the sadness and despair is immeasurable. But there is a beauty in the letter too of love and care...

It’s unthinkable that human beings would treat other human beings with such murderous cold-heartedness and indifference to suffering. Letters like this, which are so personal, heartfelt, full of love, and intimate, allow our empathy to understand what really went on and how truly abhorrent it was. These personal letters join the historic documentation to let us see into the human soul, both good and bad.
