In February of 1975, Italian author Italo Calvino was alerted to an anti-abortion essay written by his friend and fellow novelist Claudio Magris. Calvino sent the this letter in response.
The idea that a government would take control of my body, any woman's body, is nothing less than an act of enslavement. Our supreme court's decision to uphold the madness of Texas is too important not to address in some manner, so thank you for including this letter from the great Italian humanist Italo Calvino.
Thank you for publishing this. It’s so important for people to hear these true words.
Bravo, Bravo Italo Calvino.
