Become a paid subscriber

Since beginning the Letters of Note newsletter in December of 2020, I’ve sent out approximately 300 emails to its discerning, friendly, and attractive readers. I’m no boffin but according to some simple mathematics, that’s something like 15 per month, or, according to some additional mathematics, that’s one “issue” every couple of days. I truly love doing it, and I love the feedback you give me, and I’ll continue to do it so long as it’s wanted and it makes financial sense. The problem is, the vast majority of those posts have been free to read, and I’ve offered very little incentive for people to become paid subscribers—although many of you have and I really appreciate it!—and this has resulted in the newsletter being quite nonsensical, financially. Which means it’s becoming increasingly difficult to justify the time I spend on it.

Look, I realise this is all very boring, and I wish I didn’t have to think about it, let alone type it out and send it to the thousands of people who signed up to read interesting letters. But I must, because I want this newsletter to continue, so before you lose interest, here’s the new plan. Each and every Friday, beginning tomorrow, I’ll be sending out the Letters of Note newsletter to every subscriber, whether you pay or not, and I’ll be very pleased to do so. A single free one, once per week. If this is all you want or can afford, then please continue as a non-paying reader and know that I really appreciate your eyeballs. Enjoy the letters. Forward them to others and spread the word. Shout about it from the rooftops.

If, however, you’d like to receive more than just a single letter each Friday—and as previously mentioned, there’s usually at least a couple more each week, and some audio every now and then—from now on you’ll need to become a paying subscriber for a few pounds per month. To clarify, from now on:

Free subscribers get one letter each Friday.
Paid subscribers get at least a couple more each week, and occasional audio.
I continue to love you all.
