Only Obama didn’t address his successor by first name. Probably made him too ill to put to paper, let alone say outloud.

Was just about to make that exact comment.

Interestingly, Obama’s letter anticipates issues that Trump clearly did not understand, like “separation of powers” and “the rule of law.”

Fascinating to see the different handwritings! I feel like I’m so used to just seeing their signatures

Oh my. Wish we could read Trump's letter.

Me too. Hard to imagine it “shockingly gracious”

If it was "shockingly gracious", someone else wrote it for him.

I expected and truly appreciate President Obama's tact, if I can call it that, in his letter to Trump. Still miss him. Obama, that is.

It undoubtedly took a great deal of effort to be that tactful. The letter's tone was official rather than warm. The salutation, Mr. President, may have been one that Trump would have appreciated. Mr. President. It has a nice ring to it. It also may have been the only salutation that Obama could stomach.
