This summer I've been reading books about WWII. I added Nicholas Monsarrat's THE CRUEL SEA, a book I and my 1970 AP English class convinced our teacher was too bloody for us tender things (and I wish Dr Davis was still alive so I could apologize and talk to her about it). In the monstrosity of war, there are kindnesses we can do, and I held my breath as I read down the page to Lord Kitchener's response. Then, a big sigh of relief. The children were spared a little longer before the ugliness of the world descended on them. Much love to them, if they are still alive.
Please spare her
Oh, my heart! 🥹
Brilliant and so touching. ♥️
Cried my eyes out. ❤️
Thanks. That was truly heartwarming and deeply satisfying. I enjoyed reading the piece thoroughly.

War is ugly, this little kindness would not have been forgotten !
Aw, so sweet
Goosepimpling and glorious! My cheeks are wet.
Even wars do have a kind story to share. 🖤
