I wish this letter could be magically put in the hands of people, young, and old, who do not read or see it as something of a waist of time. This letter is a gift to all of us.
It is so good to be reminded of the power of reading books. Over the past couple of years many of us have experienced a world shrinking in so many ways - we can’t travel like we used to, our socializing opportunities have diminished, our budgets have become tighter. But by immersing ourselves in wonderful books, we can escape our troubles for free. We can add new dimensions and possibilities in our lives. Is that why some people want to ban books? Are they afraid of others whose imaginations soar above the mundane?

What a wonderful letter. And, what a wonderful teacher who cared enough to reach out to Mr. Roddenberry!

So true, and so kind of him to reach out to this young man.
Absolutely wonderful! :D
Thank you so much for unearthing this timeless gem!
This is one of the most beautiful and sweetest letters I've ever read. I'm off to have a cry now.
