For anyone wondering about Violet Bonham Carter in the last one like I was – yes, actress Helena Bonham Carter is her granddaughter (according to Wikipedia).

I shall start some of my own letters with How dare you ... and see what appears. Thanks for the inspiration, Shaun.

Yay to clarity and brevity! To most of social media I say "how dare you?"

I love Letters of Note. I always thought that when the George Bush people swift-boated John Kerry, Kerry should have said to Bush in the debate, clearly and steadily: ‘How dare you’. How Dare You is one of the few things left in the language deeper and stronger than Fuck Off.

I may start my own compilation of letters employing this marvelous turn of phrase – – so many people in contemporary life are begging for a comeuppance for rude and callous behavior, and how dare I fail to let them know it?

My favorite Substack. Always a delight.

If we were all able to communicate this clearly and concisely how we feel, there would be no festering unspoken pain -- sometimes simply the act of stating one's own truth is enough.
