I smile reading this, as something I heard when in college 50 years ago, but couldn't verify. As a devoted A. Lincoln follower, I am so glad you confirmed it. He was an amazing man in a nightmare job and time, but managed such kindness and understanding for a child who would have been and still would be an advertising dynamo. Hurrah to the both of them and to us for electing such an individual of wisdom and love of and for "the people.". He probably would include by the people as well!
It was a brilliant moment in time when leaders were conscientious and kind. I like to think about that and believe that one day we might experience that again.
